Dosage Information for Policosanol |
 |
|
Most clinicians who are familiar with Policosanol recommend a starting dose of policosanol is 10 mg once a day, taken with the evening meal, which can be increased up to 20 mg per day. Higher dosages, up to 80 mg per day, are currently being studied. Taking Policosanol during pregnancy is not recommended, although no teratogenic effects have been found in animal models., , It is unknown whether the drug or its metabolites pass into human milk; therefore therapy must be discontinued during lactation. Treatment of children is not recommended because of lack of experience in this particular population. The drug seems to be safe in elderly subjects. In patients with impaired liver function, no dose reduction is recommended. | |
